The Council is required to assess flood risk, drainage and hydrogeology/ groundwater constraints at a potential development site east of Lutterworth in Leicestershire. A map showing the study site and its general location is presented as Figure 1. The site is centred at approximate grid reference SP 554 848 (455450E, 284850N) approximately 1.25 km east of Lutterworth town centre. The development site comprises farm land and within the site lies the Misterton Marshes SSSI. In support of the development, Natural England has requested that groundwater level monitoring takes place over a number of years to help determine the hydrogeological regime in the vicinity of the SSSI. A site location plan is attached.
The Council is seeking a contractor to install groundwater level monitoring equipment in pre-existing monitoring wells and to monitor groundwater levels for up to 3 years initially and possibly longer. The provisional approximate locations of the boreholes are shown on the attached Figure 2.
The site is underlain by Oadby Member (glacial till) over Shawell Sand and Gravel Formation and locally by Alluvium over the till. It is the groundwater levels in the Alluvium and the Shawell Sand and Gravel that require monitoring. The wells are expected to range between 5m and 25m deep depending on the depth to the target stratum which is largely dependent on topography.
The site is predominantly open farm land and is therefore not secure.
