electricity, gas, oil, lpg and water.
A one-stop-shop for energy saving in
business.
Energy
Surveys How
do you know if your business wastes energy? Although some waste is obvious
for most industrial/commercial properties an energy survey is the first step
towards identifying opportunities for making energy savings.
The
UK Government's published literature shows that at least 20% of all the energy
used by business is wasted. Other research puts this figure as high as 40%
and it is known that the UK loses over 668,000MJ of energy every year
(equivalent to nearly 50M tonnes of CO2 and accounting for over 10% of total
energy losses from European buildings).
All
of this represents one significant thing - a fantastic opportunity for you to
reduce your costs and increase profits. Any saving on your energy bill
goes straight to bottom line profits and is an easier way to increase
profitability than generating new sales. It is also low risk and comes
with guaranteed return on investment.
Typically
it is possible to make savings of:
- 10% with no investment whatsoever (good housekeeping)
- 20% with low level of investment (1-2 year payback)
- 35-40% based on 2-5 year investment
Stewart
King can provide a cost-effective energy survey resulting in a definitive report
highlighting all viable areas where energy can be saved within any property.
This includes a simple, actionable summary of what should be done, when and at
what cost.
Heating
We
all need it and yet most of us continue to spend far more on this than we really
need to. Stewart King can provide a range of services from simple advice
on improvements to existing systems right through to the design and
specification of replacement / new systems for all sorts of buildings.
Recent projects have included several churches, sports halls, retail properties,
local government offices and several schools.
Areas
covered include:
- Oil & Gas If you have a boiler
providing heating and hot water in your building the chances are that it is not
quite as effective as it could be. Conventionally controlled boilers (that
is, non-combi systems) can benefit from installation of retrofit Load
Compensation control - benefit in so much as you will save money! Stewart can also design and supply fuel saving devices to reduce the cost of running
factory heating systems.
- Electric Radiant Heating
Several years ago I came across a truly remarkable Swedish heating system that
replicates the long wave radiant heat output of the sun to provide gentle
comfort where conventional systems simply cannot perform adequately or
efficiently. It is brilliant for "difficult" buildings, for
example, churches, school halls, shops with open doors.

Long
wave radiant heat works by replacing the human body's heat loss to moving air -
just like being outside on a sunny spring day and moving from the shade into the
sun - the air temperature doesn't change but you feel warmer - AlfaStrip and
AlfaCassette operate in exactly the same way.
99% energy efficiency, silence, no distracting glow - simply brilliant.
- Electric Heating
doesn't have to cost
the earth!
Stewart can design and supply low energy electric heating systems (and controls), for
both commercial and domestic application, with the emphasis very much on energy
and cost savings. The basis of these systems is the Ecolec range of
ultra-low running cost, ultra-slim panel heaters controlled by wireless, digital
timer/stats. Solar provision of hot
water can also be built in for "green-ness".
- Novitherm
- simple insulating panels to eliminate heat loss from the backs of the your
radiators and wall mounted heaters into the structure of the building -
heat that is almost always lost to the atmosphere. 10-15% reduction in
heating bills and improvements to thermal efficiency of the radiators.
HVAC
(Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning)
Complete
design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning service - but
nothing "off the shelf" - Stewart specializes only in unique solutions to one-off
problems.
Electricity
There
has been some concern voiced recently that changes in the Building Regulations
could effectively kill off electric heating however Stewart would advise that over the
past 3-4 months Stewart has been asked to design and specify more electric heating
solutions than at any similar period over the past 2-3 years.
Improving
insulation and building design for low energy application has always gone hand
in hand with electric heating and the new legislation strongly reinforces this
message.
Office
Lighting
There
are so many lighting systems out there - how do you go about choosing the right
one for your office environment. You need to balance cost against quality
- that goes without saying - but what about the physical impact of lighting on
your staff (and yourself) - have you considered that? What if you could
simply open a window in the ceiling and flood your workspace with daylight -
well we believe that you can and should.
|
As
an employer you spend £'s on your staff (salary, office equipment, cars etc) -
but ask yourself how much do you spend on lighting? You may be overlooking
a major factor affecting staff performance, because bad lighting causes all
kinds of problems from headaches to eye strain to fatigue to lack of
productivity - did you know that?
|
 |
One
solution in the modern office can be Virtual Daylight®- a system of vertical
polarisation, coupled with daylight tubes (6500K output) and high frequency
control that effectively reproduces natural daylight to 98%, creating a totally
natural working environment. The superior quality of light is proven to
substantially (70%+) minimise eyestrain and reduce both headaches and fatigue
allowing staff to work more effectively throughout the day.
You
will even save energy and money as this type of lighting is energy effective,
friendly to the environment and inexpensive to maintain!
Lighting
& Controls
Why
should you worry about lighting - well 58,000GWh of electricity is used every
year to light the UK - almost 20% of the total electricity that is burned in
this country goes on lighting - that is why you need to improve the energy
effectiveness of your lighting.
- Fluoresave
an exciting development in
energy saving for switch start fluorescent lighting and discharge fixtures (SON,
metal halide etc). Fluoresave
regulates the voltage (dropping it by 10-15%) after ignition accruing power
consumption savings of 20-30%.
- Lo-Energi Floodlights huge
savings
on external floodlighting by use of 26W / 42W and 2x32W Low energy floods.
